Step Back in Time: Dukes & Diamonds
June 15th, 2024 marked a magical evening at the Chateau Nouvelle in Houston, Texas, where history and fantasy intertwined at the Dukes & Diamonds event. Hosted by Eudantria Events, this Bridgerton-inspired gathering transported guests to the Regency era for a delightful celebration and watch party for the new season of Bridgerton.
As the lead photographer, I had the honor of capturing the essence of this unique experience. Armed with my Sony A7RV and Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 Art lens, I navigated the grand halls with a Godox V1 on-camera flash, Godox AD100, and Godox AD600, complemented by a EZlock Glow 70'' softbox, C-stand, and a small flash stand. The event was a blend of candid moments and posed portraits, each reflecting the elegance and charm of the Regency era.
Capturing the Magic
The attendees and performers were the heart of this event. From lively brunch conversations to thrilling nerf gun duels, elegant ballroom dancing, and the highly anticipated watch party, every moment was filled with joy and excitement. The candid shots captured spontaneous smiles and interactions, while the formal portraits showcased the dramatic beauty of the guests in their period costumes.
Overcoming Challenges
One of the challenges I faced was the venue’s lighting, which had a strong yellow hue. To harmonize my flash with the ambient lighting, I used a CTO gel. This adjustment ensured that the photos maintained a consistent and pleasing color balance, enhancing the authenticity of the Regency atmosphere.
The Editing Process
Post-processing was a meticulous task, with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop as my trusted tools. Over 18 hours, I color-corrected, exposure-adjusted, retouched, and color-graded each photo to bring out the best in every shot. The result is a collection of images that vividly capture the spirit of the Dukes & Diamonds event.
